The Trip That Almost Didn't Happen (And Why You Shouldn't Wait Either)

Introduction

There's a trip I almost didn't take.

I had been dreaming about it for months. I'd looked at flight prices, read blog posts, watched videos, and imagined myself there. But I never booked it. I never took the step.

Because I was waiting.

Waiting for the right amount of money.
Waiting for the perfect time.
Waiting for the feeling of being "ready."

But that feeling never came.

And then one day, I realized something that changed everything: the perfect moment doesn't exist. The only moment that exists is now.

So, I stopped waiting. I started taking small steps — saving a little each week, researching visa requirements, planning bit by bit. And slowly, the impossible started to feel possible.

This is the story of the trip that almost didn't happen — and why I'm so glad I didn't let fear win.

The Wait That Almost Cost Me Everything

Let me be honest: I was scared.

I was scared of spending money I might need later.
Scared of traveling alone.
Scared of the visa process, the flight, the unknown.

So, I waited.

And waiting felt safe. It felt responsible. It felt like the smart thing to do.

But here's what I didn't realize: waiting was also a choice. And it was a choice that was costing me something — time, momentum, and the chance to grow.

Every month I waited was a month I didn't learn.
Every year I waited was a year I didn't grow.

I wasn't protecting myself. I was holding myself back.

The Moment Everything Changed

One night, I was scrolling through travel photos — feeling that familiar mix of longing and defeat — when a question popped into my head.

Not "Can I afford it?
Not "Is it possible?
Not "Am I ready?

But: "What would it take?"

It was such a simple question. But it shifted something in me.

Instead of focusing on all the reasons I couldn't travel, I started focusing on what I could do. Instead of waiting for permission, I started giving myself permission.

And that changed everything.

What I Did Differently

I didn't book a flight that night. I didn't save a million naira in a month. But I did take small steps.

1. I started saving consistently.

₦5,000 a week. That's it. Not a windfall. Not a miracle. Just a small amount, set aside every week. Over time, those small amounts added up to something real.

2. I started researching.

I googled visa requirements. I read blog posts. I joined travel groups. I asked questions. I learned that the process was more accessible than I thought.

3. I started planning.

I created a simple budget. I set a target date. I broke the big goal into small, manageable steps.

4. I started sharing.

I told a friend about my plan. Saying it out loud made it real. And having someone cheer me on gave me courage.

What I Learned from the Trip That Almost Didn't Happen

1. The perfect moment doesn't exist.

You will never feel 100% ready. You will never have all the answers. You just have to start.

2. Fear is not a stop sign.

Fear is a signal. It's a sign that you're doing something that matters. Don't let it stop you. Let it fuel you.

3. Small steps compound.

₦5,000 a week doesn't feel like much. But over a year, it's ₦260,000. Small steps add up to big results.

4. The regret of not going is worse than the fear of going.

I've never regretted a trip I took. But I've regretted the ones I didn't. The ones I let fear talk me out of. The ones I postponed until "someday."

What This Means for You

If you're reading this and you've been putting off a trip — waiting for the right moment, the right money, the right feeling — I want you to know something:

The moment will never be perfect. But you can start anyway.

You don't need to have it all figured out. You just need to take one small step. Open the savings account. Google the visa requirements. Book the flight.

The trip you keep postponing is the one you'll regret the most.

A Challenge for You

This week, I'm challenging you to take one small step toward a trip you've been putting off.

It could be:
· Setting up a travel savings account
· Researching visa requirements for your dream destination
· Booking a flight (even if it's months away)
· Telling someone about your plan

It doesn't have to be big. It doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be done.

Let's Keep Going

Thank you for reading this far. Thank you for being here. Thank you for dreaming.

I'm on this journey too. Still learning. Still growing. Still taking small steps every day.

And I'm glad you're here with me.
